The Mistakes That Cost Me Everything

A digital painting of a man in pain surrounded by symbols of regret and betrayal, titled "The Mistakes That Cost Me Everything"

The Mistakes That Cost Me Everything

We all make mistakes. But some of them? They slowly take away everything—your peace, your money, your close relationships, even your health. This is my story. A story of trust, of misplaced kindness, of believing too much in people who were never meant to stay.

And these were the mistakes that cost me everything.

The Mistake of Saying “Yes” Every Time

For years, I couldn’t say no. If someone needed help, I helped—even when I was barely able to help myself. I gave money to friends who were building their homes, cousins chasing their dreams, people starting businesses.

One friend asked for support while building his house. I didn’t have enough—but I sold my own car to keep my word.

Another cousin needed to study abroad. I lend him a major part for his fee and expenses . Someone else needed a guarantee to get products on installments. I gave it. He vanished. I paid.

I kept thinking, “If I don’t help them now, they’ll be stuck.” I thought I was doing the right thing.

But later, when I was the one stuck, most of them were… gone.

No calls. No replies. Some even blocked me.

That’s when I began to realize, this was one of the biggest mistakes that cost me everything—always giving, never saving for myself.

The Mistake of Trusting the Wrong People

In 2024, I bought a car.

That one decision shattered everything.

I sold it later, and the issue came back to me. My wife’s uncle told me to buy it back—promising he’d return it to the seller. I borrowed money and followed his advice.

But when the time came, he said, “Did I ask you to bring it back?” This happened months after I bought that car back and was waiting on his lies that he’s resolving issue with previous seller but in actual he betrayed me and did nothing.

That moment broke me. It wasn’t just the betrayal—it was the realization that I trusted him over my own instincts, over everyone warning me not to.

This car started my downfall. My financial stability, my peace, my health—everything began to fall apart after that. One of the mistakes that cost me everything more than anything.

The Mistake of Ignoring My Own Needs

I was earning well. I had just returned from a trip to five countries. I had invested a good amount in a new business. Things looked stable.

But after that car issue, debt started piling up. I had borrowed from my wife’s mother, a friend, and a cousin. But I used my earnings for another trip to middle-east, thinking things would resolve.

They didn’t.

I kept trying to fix everything for everyone—my business partner, my wife, my cousin, friends—while I silently broke down.

I didn’t prioritize myself. I was emotionally exhausted, financially drained, and mentally numb.

This mistake slowly stole my peace, bit by bit.

The Mistake of Staying Silent in Pain

One of The Mistakes that cost me everything was Staying Silent in Pain.

I didn’t talk to anyone. Not even my wife.

I kept pretending I was fine, but deep inside, I was falling apart — drowning in debt, betrayal, pressure, and thoughts I was too afraid to say out loud.

One night, I couldn’t carry it anymore. So I sat down and just let it out — not to a person, but to something that couldn’t judge me. I wrote everything I was feeling. Every hidden pain. Every fear.

And then… I cried. For the first time in a long time.

That night, I learned something powerful: silence can destroy you slowly.

Sometimes, just putting your pain into words can save you.

If you’re going through something and don’t feel ready to speak to someone, you can still let it out. Write it down. Talk to yourself. Or even use an AI tool like Gemini or ChatGPT. It’s not about who listens — it’s about letting your heart breathe.

Don’t carry it all alone. Seeking help isn’t weakness. It might just save your life.

The Mistake of Trusting the Wrong Person in Business

One person I trusted, who had good relations with my family, later turned out to be a fraud. I invested with him, supported him, and believed his every word.

Later, when I asked for my money, he said, “You owe me.”

I lost a huge amount.

The cousin whose business I helped start? He grew rich. But when I needed him, he promised to help but right after his promise he ignored my calls and said nothing but he told people I begged him for help

These were people I once stood up for. Now, they were my biggest regrets.

The Turning Point

In late 2024 and early 2025, I broke.

My wife had been sick during pregnancy, suffered from dengue, and later severe gallbladder pain. She fainted during treatment once.

Meanwhile, I was fighting my own storms—debt, betrayal, mental health (This was the beginning of my fall).

After I lost everything, One night, she cried and said, “I’m dying inside. Who will take care of our kids?”

That night changed everything.

We held each other. We cried. We promised we’ll fight this together.

That moment helped me rise again.

The Lessons I’ll Never Forget

These were the mistakes that cost me everything. But they also taught me things I’ll never forget:

  • Stop helping everyone. Some people will use your kindness as a weakness.
  • Trust yourself more than others.
  • If people can say no, so can you.
  • Never put others ahead of your own family and mental peace.
  • And above all: don’t stay silent when you’re breaking inside.

A Word for You

If you’ve made your own mistakes… If you’ve trusted people who left you shattered… If you’ve suffered in silence…

Please know: You’re not alone.

I was there. I almost gave up.

But you can rise again.

Start small. Focus on healing. Put yourself first. And next time someone tells you to sacrifice everything for them, ask yourself—would they do the same for me?

Final Thoughts

I lost money. I lost friends. I lost years of peace. These were the mistakes that cost me everything. But they also gave me one gift—clarity.

Clarity that I matter. That my family matters. That my peace is more valuable than any fake friendship.

And from now on, that’s the only thing I’ll protect.
